Salting and Gritting
Grit Bins
Grit bins are provided at all Pickering and Ferens Homes schemes and contain a mixture of salt and grit.
Icy Conditions
When the weather is wintery and footpaths become icy the association will assess the situation and where possible Pickering and Ferens Homes will attempt to salt and grit footpaths which belong to them.
In particular the association’s grounds maintenance contractor will attempt to ensure communal footpaths are gritted.
Residents are requested not to sweep away salt and grit if the weather becomes warmer as it can quickly deteriorate at anytime and salt and grit already provided can help stop footpaths becoming dangerous.
Residents
Residents may use the salt and grit provided within the grit bins to tend to their own pavements, should they wish to.
Contact
Should a resident have a particular concern over a certain area then please contact the Maintenance Section on: (01482) 212360. The association is not responsible for the salting and gritting of public footpaths or highways.
Excessive Adverse Conditions
The association’s ability to salt and material for salting and gritting footpaths may be delayed due to conditions beyond our control; for example, excessive snow fall. In addition services may be adversely affected at weekends and bank holidays due to the limited availability of the workforce and material for salt and gritting
