Resident enjoys style makeover to remember

Tina Gill, a 53-year-old professional Image Consultant and Personal Stylist from Doncaster, gave up her time to take competition winner Alison Holmes on an unforgettable shopping trip. Tina normally charges £250 for this service and Pickering and Ferens Homes also contributed £75 to spend on clothes.

Alison, who is 66, was delighted when she found out her entry had been drawn out of the hat, as she was really ready for a refresh of her wardrobe.

Tina has held events up and down the country, including at St Stephen’s shopping centre here in Hull where she has passed on many hints and tips and “secrets of the trade” to shoppers.

Alison met up with Tina at St Stephen’s and says it was an experience to remember. She came away with a quilted jacket and some stylish trousers. “Tina was lovely because my health isn’t so good at the moment. I have just had an operation and I had my carer with me so I was a bit anxious about the whole thing.

“Tina called me the week before to ask me about the sort of clothes I normally wear and what kind of outfit I was looking for. I know I could have got a really posh frock but it would have been wasted really, as I wouldn’t get chance to wear it. So Tina helped me pick out a really nice country casual style jacket and trousers.

“I felt a bit out of touch with what clothes to put with what because I have been poorly on and off for five years now, Tina suggested things that would look nice on me and made me feel really good about myself. She told me to sit and have a coffee and she kept bringing different options over to me.

“It doesn’t take much for me to get into the Christmas spirit, but the shopping trip definitely left me feeling that way.”

Tina added: “Alison had fabulous individual style already, but had lost her way a little bit with what to wear, so taking on board her current situation (with a foot injury) and also her casual lifestyle, we decided to focus on spending the money on items which would give her maximum flexibility when coupled with items she already had in her wardrobe.

“The slim leg trousers are great for her petite frame and the short fitted casual jacket will not only work well with other things she has but will also keep her nice and warm in the colder weather. We also invested in a couple of tops and a statement necklace to create some nice day to evening looks for any forthcoming nights out.”
