Our housing is designed to meet the requirements of people over the age of 60. However depending on the scheme, age requirement may be 55 and over. Where operational difficulties exist minimum age restrictions may be reduced. If you would like to talk to us in more detail about any of the housing accommodation we offer please don’t hesitate to get in touch on 01482 223783.
Pickering and Ferens Homes provides three different types of housing as follows:
Our homes designed for independent living are of an exceptional standard and usually offer a Security and Information service (Lifeline / OkEachDay system) to ensure that residents have a back up should they need to contact someone urgently.
Most homes will be in close proximity to our Community Pop-In Centres and will be able to access a wide range of social activities supported through the work of our Community Investment Team.
Activities and trips are usually organised by a formal Residents Association or informal group. There is a need for sufficient active older residents to be housed on this type of scheme so that they can contribute to the social welfare and balance of the scheme and make full use of the Pop-In facilities provided.
These homes are situated within our sheltered schemes. They are mainly in self contained flats with a communal lift.
Our Scheme Managers are there to support you in a variety of ways, from just checking you’re OK to supporting you to get the services you need to live well. Scheme Managers also support the schemes usually rather hectic and diverse activities programmes!
The bungalows and flats in the villages surrounding a scheme also have access to a Scheme Manager and the communal facilities. A small number of properties are provided for residents who have mobility difficulties and may use wheelchairs.
There are a range of facilities available on sheltered schemes such as: a 24 hour emergency call system, a communal room, assisted bathing facilities, a guest room, a laundry (with both washing and drying machines), a library, a quiet room, a communal kitchen and a hairdressing facility.
PFH offers residents several Pop-Ins conveniently located nearby to their housing schemes. These centres enable residents to socialise and enjoy a wide range of activities including: craft sessions, social lunches and entertainment performances.
The seven Pop-Ins, which are run by committees of resident volunteers, can be found at the association’s schemes in Arden Court, Barrington Avenue, Broadway Drive, Hebrides Close, Majestic Court, Westgarth Avenue and Wheatfield Close.
Our residents are encouraged to play an active role at their local Pop-In, even if this is simply turning up on a regular basis. They’re an extremely popular way of boosting your social life and give the association’s schemes a real community neighbourhood feel.
