Pickering and Ferens Homes breaks ground on Orchard Garth Phase 2

Pickering and Ferens Homes have officially broken ground on Phase 2 of its Orchard Garth development, marking the next stage in the delivery of much‑needed, high‑quality housing for later life living.

The new phase will deliver eight modern, two‑bedroom apartments designed to support safe, comfortable, and independent living for people aged 50 and over. The homes are being funded by Pickering and Ferens Homes, with grant funding support from Homes England.

Located on the ground and first floors, the apartments will be suitable for single residents or couples and will be named Peartree Apartments, continuing the orchard‑themed naming of the wider development.

Phase 2 follows the successful completion of Phase 1, which saw the delivery of 23 two‑bedroom bungalows alongside Appletree Apartments, a block of six two‑bedroom apartments. These homes have proven extremely popular, with residents attracted by their modern design, thoughtful layouts, on‑site facilities, and attractive landscaped grounds.

Richard Walker, Home Services Director at Pickering and Ferens Homes, said: “We are looking forward to delivering the next stage of this popular development over the next 12 months, with our development partner Azza Construction with support from Unity,  putting the finishes touches to the Orchard Garth scheme, bringing derelict land back into use.”

Construction is now underway, bringing the development a step closer to welcoming new residents and expanding housing choice for older people in the area.
